UH-Hilo junior goalkeeper Cassidy Dixon was named the Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week on Monday after not allowing a goal in two victories, the first of which broke a lengthy losing streak.
Dixon is a Pahoa native who played at Hawaiian Academy of Arts and Science and at Honokaa.
In his third start of the season Thursday, Dixon worked overtime to make a career-high 10 saves as the Vulcans (3-9, 2-5 PacWest) snapped an eight-match slide with a 1-0 victory against BYU-Hawaii in double overtime.
Dixon wasn’t as busy Saturday, needing just three saves to a secure another shutout on a 3-0 win against Dominican.
On the season’s he allowed one goal in more than more than 255 minutes of playing time with a save percentage of .929. Tyler Hoffman has started six matches and holds a .643 save percentage, while Joshua Jasper (.652) has started four.
Senior Day: The Vulcans will bid aloha to 14 seniors, including homegrown products James Yamane (Waiakea), Eddie Torrison (Hilo High) and Max Darris (Hilo), when they play their final home game Thursday at 3 p.m. against Holy Names (2-9-1, 1-5-1), which has yet to win on the road.
Also playing their final home matches with be Juan David Diaz Casallas, Adam Colton, Asa Goldsmith, Jamie Sporcic, Alejandro Patino, Scott Hill, Zachary Solarte, George Wakefield, Oswel Mariles, Cristian Ruelas and Jacob LaPorte.
The Lady Vulcans (4-4-3, 3-4) have only four seniors: Kayla Clarke, Nicole Rascon, Kahri Golden and McKenna Hughes. Their match with the Hawks (3-7, 1-5) starts at 12:30 p.m.
